I think they have given up on a new stadium on the same location as the 'Stick. The can swing funding for the stadium, but all the traffic re-alignment upgrades and overall infrastructure upgrades that would be forced to go along with it has pretty much put Candlestick Point out of the running. Required additional infrastructure costs would add almost 60% to the total cost (so far as 49er media releases go).
But nothing is a done deal yet.
This is a case where I wish Eddie DeBartolo was still involved. John York is an infamous penny pincher (which is a reason players stopped naming the 49ers as a desired team - York actually charged players postage if they mailed letters from team offices). So everything I read about the stadium I take with a grain of salt - John York will do anything to get something for nothing.
