Well my experiment failed.

The answer is 1974 AFC Divisional Playoff between the two time defending Super Bowl Champion Dolphins coached by Don Shula. Versus the Oakland Raiders coached by John Madden. Raiders win 28-26 (I believe this was also the Sea of Hands game, but I could be confused).

Before the game John Madden kept talking about how the Dolphins and Raiders were the class of the NFL and the winner of this game would win the Super Bowl. That is why the hype generated the nickname "Super Bowl eight and a half". These comments infuriated Pittsburgh Steelers coach Chuck Noll.

According to Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rocky Blier. Chuck didn't like to motivate players. He said if a player needed to be motivated, he didn't want them on this team. After hearing John Madden's comments. Chuck gave a speach in the Steeler dressing room that Blier said was completely out of character for Noll. He told the Steelers that the best team in the NFL wasn't the Dolphins or the Raiders. The best team in the NFL was in this dressing room. Steelers go on to beat the Raiders (no not the immaculate reception, that happened in 1972) and then go on to win Super Bowl 9. Their first of four Super Bowl victories in the 1970's.
