If you only have 1 computer in the basement, i would use a wireless bridge instead. The RJ45 coming out of the bridge can also be connected to a switch to connect more computers.

to find out the ip address, click on start -> Run. Type in CMD and hit OK. In there, type in IPCONFIG. You will be able to see your ipaddress.
