I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what happened here.
The tiger was not put down, it was shot dead. The police arrived to see the tiger attacking a victim and there were still many other people around. They had to shoot it to save lives.
They didn't have the choice to wait for tranquilizers while it killed more and more people.
