I think Trent was in a feud with his record label, as in they were not willing to market the music the way he wanted. So at his shows he would encourage fans to DL his music for free.
I do not believe Year Zero (the one after With Teeth) has the same protection impediments because if I recall correctly, he now releases exclusively on his own record label. Which of course he has total control of.
Its funny, because I'm not even a huge NiN fan. The Fragile (left and right) was amazing. But the rest are only so so, imo.
