In some fairness... small accidents CAN have lasting effects. Is it the case in all the examples provided? Doubt it. Most times people don't feel the effects of an accident right away.
I know that my mother, who was in a bigger accident than your average fender bender didn't feel any effects until months later. Was she a money grabber? Absolutely not, but she wasn't able to do many of the daily tasks she was used to until almost a year and a half later.
Sure, there's scumbags out there that could take advantage of the situation, but without reading the article, and just reading the reaction and the examples, there could still be a chance of injury.
From what I gathered though, the skier and the accident involving the 17 year old sound like scumbags.
