Oh wow Diplomacy. I actually forgot about that game. I played that back in high school. Our math teacher introduced that game to us. It was always one move per day near the end of class on a piece of scrap paper.
And yeah Settlers + City of Knights is almost a requirement. I don't mind the occasional Settlers game with no expansion though. You know, to break in the n00bs
