I think it all depends on if he signed something that stated 'you are not to consume other products.' In Canada I don't think that would fly at all unless the guy either singed something or knew he would get fired for doing that. I'm sure the company would pump up the 'ambassador' angle because it is ambiguous. I agree with you that that is totally ridiculous.
