Chances are you will need to upgrade the processor and video card to be on par with the new HP. Which will likely involve upgrading the memory and the motherboard. On top of this you may require a more powerful power supply. Overall, it requires a whole new computer.
With two kids like that, unless they are both into very technology oriented hobbies (outside of games), just buy them a Wii/Xbox360. It will be cheaper then trying to maintain two full gaming PC's. It's expensive enought to maintain one
