I think people are missing the forest for the trees. This issue isn't about safety or removing bad drivers off the roads(because there's no dem points taken off). This is strictly about the government raising money because spending increases year over year are much higher than revenue increases. The gravy train in Edmonton is threatening to come to hault if new revenues aren't found. Royalty Review = More gravy (I'd actually despute they'll collect less revenue than otherwise and their finance guys don't understand economics, but the thought behind it was to collect more money), Photo - Radar/Red Light tickets = More Gravy, Teachers Annoucement = Vote buying to resolve an issue that might have worked in the Liberals favor in the event of a spring election. It's all political. If we let them get away with this in the end we'll have a police state that isn't interested in locking up real criminals but rather make our police force glorified tax collectors because they're too chicken to try to increase taxes. If they had to do that then the merit of their spending practices would actually be called into question. This way they can throw out an airy fairly rationale as to why they're doing it and blame anyone who questions the financial side of it as being uncaring for Albertans.
