Scott Adams, creator of the comic strip Dilbert, wrote about this on his blog a while back.

Not to derail the thread, but you owe it to yourself to check out his blog if you haven't already. It's crude, it's offensive, it's hilarious and it's updated everyday. While his comics are already pretty funny, you can't help but wonder how much more awesome they would be if you didn't have to worry about making them newspaper-friendly.
