The DS is absolutely huge in Japan apparently. It's by far the most popular of any of the consoles.
I recently got one and it's definitely worth it for people who grew up with the NES, SNES, and Genesis. It's a great feeling playing 2D versions of Mario, Mega Man, and Contra (and others) that are brand new with vibrant graphics. The games usually come in at $30-$35 as well making them much more reasonable than consoles (especially with game lengths dropping quickly).
