Hello CP

First time ever starting a thread, but there seems to be quite the brain trust here so I figure I could ask for some advice

I'm planning on spending a couple of days in Montréal with my girlfriend during the Christmas time. Does anyone have any good recommendations on places to stay? While I'm not a student anymore, I'm not loaded either, so preferably someplace not too expensive, and near sites of interest. We haven’t decided if we’re going to drive or fly from Toronto, so I’m not sure if we’ll have the car while we are there.

She’s been there a bunch of time, so it’s nothing really special for her. However, of me, I plan on finding myself a good place to get a traditional Montreal Smoke meat sandwich, Poutine, and bagels (local and traditional food is something I always like to experience when I travel). Are there things I can’t miss for my first time in Montreal?
