Why not trade and lock up the much younger Miguel Cabrera, the 2nd best 3B in the league (with all due respect to David Wright), a guy who could be the cornerstone of your franchise for another 15+ years. Arod isn't old by any stretch, but I think a fresh start is better for all parties involved (and for the Jays!).
And CMP, why is that so mind blowing? He is the best player in MLB hands down and not to mention, a much better SS than Jeter.

That and the fact that the Rangers were dumb enough to even offer him $25 million/ season to start when none of the other offers he was getting were anywhere close from what i heard.
If he's the best player in baseball, then I have no problem with him getting paid what he's worth, but to opt out of your $25 mill contract to resign for $30 Mill with the same team is just gross
