FIRE IN THE KITCHEN!!! ARE THE REDWINGS DONE??
Oilers grease Wings for third straight loss

Well amidst a difficult stretch in the schedule the Detroit Red Wings had very little left in the tank for todays tilt with the Edmonton Oilers. The boys from Michigan were playing for the 5th straight day, and against the Oilers for the third time in the last 6. With the Oilers rested and angry it looked like it could be a tough game for the Micheganers and to a certain extent it was. Although the 6-3 Oiler win was not a terribly bad result for the Wings considering the circumstances it did drop them down to 10th in the Howe 2 points behind the Kings and Wild, and tied with the resurgent Colorado Avalanche.

The Wings opened the scoring when Matthieu Birons point shot hit both Jay Bouwmeester and Stephane Quintal and found its way behind Martin Broduer. But just over 2 and a half minutes later the ice cold Oiler powerplay finally scored as Tom Poti ripped a shot from the faceoff circle over the glove of Johan "Anders" Hedberg. The two teams played out the next 15 minutes very tentatively generating very little in the way of offence and went to the intermission tied at one. The Wings took the lead again 6 minutes into the second stanza when Shane Doan muscled his way to the front of the Oiler net on the powerplay and ripped a shot high stick side. But fatigue set in and the Oilers went on to rattle off 4 straight goals to grab a commanding 5-2 lead. Brian Leetch got the ball rolling finishig off a 3-2 rush by taking a Bobby Holik feed and working his way betweeen the hash marks to beat Hedberg with a top corner shot to the glove side. Vincent Lecavalier extended the lead with a powerplay goal one minute and 20 seconds later. Radek Dvorak made it 3 goals in just over 3 minutes when he redirected home a Brian Leetch point shot to make it 4-2. Brendan Shanahan than upped the lead to 5-2 when he tapped in a Lecavalier pass at the side of the net and chased Hedberg. Jason Wooley closed out the frantic second period when he snuck in from the point to put one past Broduer to make it 5-3 after two.

Again having seen the Oilers blow several third period leads recently Oiler GM Sylvanfan went into the dressing room, and divulged some of the secrets he personally believes could help an individual committ murder and get away without consequence...Again his scare tactics were successfull as the Oilers mostly held the Wings to harmless perimeter shots in the third and did manage the only goal of the period. Radek Dvorak tallied his second of the game with just over two minutes left when he collected a rebound of a very healthy Dimitri Kalinin and put it behind Sean Burke.

The win keeps the Oilers second in the Howe conference 8 points up on the Ducks and miles behind the Predators. The Oilers still rank second in the CPHL and appear to have a bit of a shedulling lull with 4 of the next 5 games being against the Hawks and Stars. But as we all know the SIM acts in mysterious ways and the Hawks have played the Oilers tough this year. Despite numerous threats and mixed results Sylvanfan continues to stick with the current group of Oiler players.
