It's definitely sad. I remember way back when (I was probably 6 or so) at my Grandma's place. She was certain that she won some prize through the mail. I think all she had to do was send them $100 or something. I forget all of the details.
Basically it took my dad and mom about an hour of her persistent "but it says 'I already won!'" for her to finally realize that she didn't actually win anything and that it was in fact a scam (she might have just given up though).
Basically as we all know, the elderly aren't as quick to realize a new thing out there.
They get flyers for london drugs etc in their home mailbox, and these "flyers" in their email. whats the difference? they see none.
