Dawg has led a tough life and tried to make the most of it with this profession/TV show/finding god BS. Is he a racist underneath and has covered it up to this point? Perhaps. Does it matter? No. The use of that word in that context is inexcusable whether he has black friends or not.

The thing that got me was that his spiritual advisor is black.
The person he is turning to right now for counsel is black.
Furthermore, while he stated that this did NOT justify his use of the word, he also said that the context was not correct. He was not using the N-word as a racist word for all blacks (although he admits it often is) but rather he was using it for this particular girl because he did not like her - he was allegedly using it in the 'street version' differentiating her from other blacks (blacks that he states in the taped convo he WOULD be fine with his son dating, just not THIS girl in question). That doesn't excuse it, but goes back to my point that he lives in a different world than most of the people up in arms about it. In his world THAT is how you use THAT word - for better or worse.
I just think the Imus thing, for example, was worse. Where he is from outside that world and is obviously quite racist in how he see's black people. Versus this Dawg guy who made a mistake but does NOT see blacks as less than whites. I am sure he has an equally bad term for a white women that he thought was not good enough for his son - at least by how he explains it after the fact. It is a different world.
Is being ignorant and stupid automatically racist? I don't know...
STILL not an excuse, i am just saying there is more to it than simply 'Dawg is a racist'.
