I brought in my alcoholic summer's remnants to the bottle depot last fall. I walked out with something large, like 60 or 70 bucks. On my way out the building, guy mutters "Thanks for the tip".
I've never even heard of tipping at the bottle depot. Do you guys do it? Am I a cheap bas**rd?
As for restaurant service, every waitress starts out with a 20 - 25% tip that gets whittled down based on service. For the most part, the waitresses that know me, make a point of getting me my beer & wings ASAP, because they know they'll get a great tip.
The worst tip I ever gave was 23 cents. She didn't deserve the 23 cents, but I wasn't going to wait for change.
IMO, tip is earned through speed of initial contact, accuracy of order, and attentiveness. My biggest pet peeve is my beer glass sitting empty as I finish the wings. I don't expect her to stand there & wait for the glass to be empty, but I go nuts when she's standing at the bar smoking & chatting with the bartender & I'm thirsty.
