How many people with concealed permit licenses do you hear murdering people? None. That's because people who go through the trouble to legally license their weapons and take courses on gun safety don't shoot people. They are concerned citizens who are fighting back against criminals if they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The problem in the US is the HUGE amount of ILLEGAL weapons. I don't think there are many criminals around carrying legally licensed firearms.
If i'm getting gang beaten to a pulp i'd rather have a weapon to defend myself in some way rather than call the police and wait for 5 minutes. Sometimes time counts. Relying on the police to help in a situation similar to this isn't viable. When you allow responsible people the ability to carry a weapon to defend themselves, you add another layer of safety to the public.
This is of course my opinion and I know many won't agree with it, and that's fine. More than anything I just want the ability to defend myself if someone happens to come onto my property wielding a gun. There have been court cases where homeowners shoot and kill an intruder and have to spend thousands of dollars in court fees and other things that are just ridiculous. It shouldn't be like that IMO.
