That's why I originally started requesting milk at restaurants. I figure a tablespoon or so of milk adds only a few calories, while the same amount of cream + a bunch of sugar makes it a lot of extra calories with your breakfast. After years of drinking it that way, I just like it better now. Particularly if the coffee isn't great, a spot of milk goes a long way to cut the bitterness. Really good coffee--i.e. not bitter--I can drink black.
Of course, Starbucks' Lattes, especially the ones with all that gross flavouring syrup, aren't great for you either.
