I don't recall ever seeing one drive through in China and I've spent almost year of my life there if I where to include working and vacation. Though there may have been one or two tucked away somewhere that I didn't chance upon. Majority of the population don't own personal vehicles, so the model doesn't work there.

Not to mention, what we consider fast food here isn't exactly cheap. For example, if I were to go to McDonald's it would cost around 30 or so RMB (about $4 with the current exchange - it was around $5 when I worked there 3 years ago). It doesn't sound like alot, but when you're making an average of 1000RMB per month as an average joe, 30 is alot for one meal. Local food in contrast, If I were to get a rice box, it would be anywhere from 8-12RMB, noodles can be anywhere from 3-8 RMB (yes, as little as 50 cents Canadian for a bowl of wonton noodle soup).
