The question, "Does hip-hip (or music in general) promote a culture or reflect it?" is probably good OT fodder.
Myself, while I think that is part of it, it is probably also related to the sense of entitlement that is developed as they were recognized as star athletes, and I don't think that issue is black or white. Ryan Leaf comes to mind, and to some extent so does Jeremy Shockey and some of the shenanigans he has pulled.
