And GLAAD is worried about gay representation in media. Uh-huh...

Zoe - wow! It's OK to say Uhura's hot again. Bring on the miniskirts! I see she's in James Cameron's Avatar - could be big things ahead for this girl. [EDIT: Bring on the fandance! )

* Kung fu guys like Jet and Jackie don't count
BBS - Jet and Jackie got excluded by me as they're the chopsocky stereotype that Hollywood really only seems to use Asians for. They'd never get considered for anything other than those kung fu roles.
Sigh, even as somebody who is pointing out racial differences in Asians...You failed to notice that John Cho is Korean. But I guess that's just more evidence of why the general public and hollywood wouldn't be able to spot the difference either...nor care. People keep trying to be polictically correctly and yet failing to differentiate Chinese from Vietnamese from Japanese from Korean.

But it's okay as Sulu is not a Japanese name despite his first name Hikaru. It's a made up asiatic name as Roddenberry intended him to be representative of all of Asia. BTW, in your political correctness, I can't believe you label Jet Li and Jackie Chan as "chopsocky". It's actually quite a racially disparaging remark. Then again, Zoe is Latina and not Black, the actor playing McCoy is from New Zealand and is not American. Simon Pegg is not Scottish but British...and William Shatner is Jewish (but perhaps not Kirk).

But in any case, you are right that there is really never going to be much of anything but a niche role for Asians in Hollywood for quite some time. John Cho is 35 and the most prominent role he's been in (despite his lengthy experience) is Harold and Kumar.
