I use my stove.
Turn the burner on high and "hover" your stick above it. The glue will melt and you will be able to pull the blade/butt end out.

I believe the best way is a torch if you have access to one.

If its a senior stick, you may not need the butt end (unless you're tall, I guess). Try to minimize the use of the butt end if possible as it screws around with the flex!!!
