I'm going to guess at a few twists based on the Star Trek manuals

1) There is some concept of time travel involved (check, its a flashback episode)

2) McCoy will call Spock a heartless greenblooded

3) At some point the transporters will fail (You'd think someone would design a better one)

4) The self destruct device will be used and then canceled

5) Someone will come up with an extrememly complicated technologically impossible solution to the problem (Hey lets vent plasma from the warp Nacelles and use an inverse poleron based tachyon pulse through the plasma cloud creating the ultimate duex ex machina to end the movie

6) Kirk will swing around in his chair and say something utterly hilarious to Trekkies alone

7) Kirk will be flung out of his chair during a fight

8) The rear shields will fail at some point

9) Scotty will proclaim that he's not a miracle worker as he scotch tapes the warp drive back together.

10) Kirk will get angry proclaiming revenge

11) The villian will laugh like a maniac and be-moan the lack of a mustache to twirl

12) Uhura's only line of relevance will be hailing frequencies open

13) Checkov will mispronounce a word in a bad russian accent

14) At the end we'll get a deep meaningful speech from Kirk followed by a "To the second star on the right and on til morning" moment

15) Star fleet will demand that the enterprise returns to base, only to be told to stuff it by one of the main characters.

16) There will be a hot love interest for Kirk that will die

17) The warp drive will fail.
