AST procedure, from what i gather, is just removing the top layer of the cornea, instead of a large chunk of the middle layer.... this is beneficial in that healing should be more even (The top layer can heal in 24 hrs without any scaring). While the technology sounds promising, I do caution you that it is a new procedure and really hasn't had any studies done longer than 1 year post-operatively.

Honestly, Demong and Gimbel provide a similar success rate using a procedure called Intra-lase Lasik.. Which uses a Laser to create the Flap instead of blade. This also decreases the level of scarring and shows an improvement in dry eye problems. It also has studies much later post-operatively which are promising.

AST is exciting, but be careful with anything brand new.
