Yeah, TG has been a good one for the Chiefs, although he's had the benefit of being the only real good receiving threat in that offence for a lot of years. Than again...he's also had to deal with teams planning around stopping him to keep the Chiefs from moving the ball too.
I remember back in the early 90's it was looking like the TE would be phased out of football for awhile. But than Shannon Sharpe became a big time weapon and than the Chiefs got Gonzalez, and a few other guys stepped up and now it's an important position in the game again. I wonder if Antonio Gates will be claiming that record for himself one day in the near future? Although TG still has a lot of football left in him and Herm and Solari are starting to realize that if the Chiefs want to do anything on offence they need to make him a big part of their game plan. But I'm guessing he'd trade that record for one of Sharpes SuperBowl Rings, which is something TG likely doesn't get if he stays a life long Chief unfortunately.
