That's a great plan and all but what's going to happen when all of those trains get to 7th ave?
To be honest it all really doesn't matter to me...I don't live in the west, I don't go to mt royal, I rarely spend any time in the industrial area, etc. I'm a huge supporter of public transportation so I'd love to see all these legs put into place even if I'll never use any of them. Furthermore, I hope you all get your wish of more LRT lines and suburbia road infrastructure so everyone can get to the downtown core faster. Then when the new roads/lines allow you to arrive at the cluster-*uck that is downtown just to pay $30 a day to park or wait 30mins to catch a crowded train I'll laugh as I walk to work...
This city needs to concentrate on building it's infrastructure form the inside out! With all these new office building being built downtown we're going to see 10's of thousands of new commuters trying to get downtown on a system that's already running at capacity.
Back to the west line for a sec...perhaps a new feasibility study that isn't 25 years old is in order before any line is chosen? Most of the communities along the Bow trail line are 50ft. fronts zoned R1 similar to the communities serviced by the Lions Park and Banff Trails stations. Looking at the LRT ridership (
http://calgarytransit.com/html/lrt_ridership.html) you can see that these stations have the lowest ridership on the NW line. While a park n ride at Westside Rec Center is probably a great idea perhaps the route to get there could use a little rethinking?
