With internet shopping and frequent travel to the US today, theres not as much as in years past that youd want to bring back from montreal.
The meat, cheese, and alcohol idea is a good one but make sure you get something that is unique to Quebec and that you cant buy here (this applies more to the alcohol and cheese). You could buy a big chunk of smoked meat from scwartz's and then either split it up at home and give it away in pieces. or you could have a small get together where you serve all the stuff you brought back. depends if you are bringing this back for friends or girlfriends. id recommend buying this stuff on your last day before you fly back so your not carrying it around but it smoked meat and cheese will keep ok.
my other suggestion is that theres a lot of indy designers who sell their own clothes, jewelry, and accessories. so if you know your friends tastes, you could pick up some unique one of a kind stuff.
