I remember when Halo 1 was still in development years ago and I thought it looked great, then Microsoft bought the studio who was making it and turned it solely into something to sell their console with.

I dont either, but afterall people do bend over for the craziest things these days. Halo 1 was groundbreaking yes, uhh like a decade ago. Halo 3 is nothing extraodinary like everyone is making it out to be. The fact is, $$$ talks. Microsoft has so much to advertise and push this game likes its the greatest thing since the invention of the telephone - and thats why you even see 7-11s selling them. Yes thats right, I was in my local 7-11 this evening to pick up some lotto tickets and right behind the counter were a bunch of Halo 3 pinups advertising that they will have the game on the shelves tommorow 12am.
Heck they even the halo slurpee cups and coffee mugs and Halo pop beverages on sale.
