Since my days in fast food I figured out that if I handed the change over first and then allowed the customer's hand to close over the bills, everything stayed in the hand and nothing was dropped.
I was never "trained" to do this, to me it was just common sense.
Why current customer service employees don't figure this out is beyond me. There is such a lack of work ethic now that even things that should be common sense are beyond the level of effort employees are willing to put forth.
