I'm having pretty good luck with Dxtory, which is available guilt-free for $44, or in other means if you're into that sort of thing. I know Hanni had some luck with MSI Afterburner, which is truly free, but the vidcap stuff is kind of buried in settings. Its not only for MSI cards, but some video cards (mine) don't seem to work with it.

Using Dxtory, I'm able to capture my video and microphone feed, but not game sound directly. Some of it comes through the mic, so its not a big deal. The down side, is that it comes out to almost exactly 2 gigabytes a minute. I can understand how that's a problem for some people, and I'm not sure if it can be solved easily. One thing we could do is take a break every hour or 2 to allow people to compress their massive video files. I don't know much about that kind of thing, but I just use Windows Movie Maker and it takes about 50% of the play time to compress it by 8000%. So 80 gigs become 1 gig, which is still kind of a chore to upload to YouTube.

So yeah, feel free to chime in if any of you have more experience at this kind of thing. I haven't done any google searching or asking how the Mindcrack people are able to capture hours of video. But, I really think it would make the post-game weeks more enjoyable for us and any potential spectators to be able to go through and watch different perspectives of how the game went. I certainly understand that no one is going to buy a new hard drive for this game though.

I did some tests and I shouldn't have any issues with Microsoft Expression that I am using. I set the video settings a little bit lower than max though, since it will just end up on youtube anyway.

So I gave Fraps a try with the settings that Etho uses, 30fps at half size, works really well and 2 minutes of video gave me about 500mb in the end. If anyone would like more info on getting fraps let me know.
