Good for him. Remains to be seen if he starts in the AHL or the ECHL.

EDIT: Title fixed

Isnt he still on a try out contract? What i heard and read they will look at him at the Abby-Camp and then talk about a AHL/NHL-Contract...

Happy to hear that Nyren will be with the Heat this season. He impressed me during the rookie tournament, he has some good wheels and hands.

As much as he said he prefers defence, I think I'd rather see him as a forward/PP quarterback.

Hmmm. Has yet to play a game for the Heat. Anyone know why that is? Is he in the unfortunate position of being the 7th dman?

With Kronwall now playing in Sweden I expect we will be seeing more of him.

he was the 9th D-man before Kronwall left; now he's 8th (assuming Baldwin, who hasn't played yet either, is ahead of him on the depth chart).

I played with Giffen during community hockey days...though at the time he played forward. That kid was off the wall. Glad to see him doing well.

Nyren played his first game with the Heat tonight in the 3-0 win. Brodie played his first game as well a got an assist.

While Nyren has size, speed and hands he is a bit of a liability with the puck. He does not have the strength to match up with his size quite yet. Allot of fun to watch rush the puck but will need to play with a stay at home d-man.
If he can get stronger i think he could be a solid prospect in a few years.

He has alot to learn. He's not horrible in Abby, but he can't be leaned on for alot of minutes.

Even Brodie is struggling a little with consistency so far in the A.

I wasnt sure how Brodie was doing, I know his stint pre season were not signs of the flames new best d man but wish i knew more on his doings back in the A

He and Pelech were the top pairing until Pelech got hurt. Now it's him and Seabrook and they are both a little small to be the top pairing. It's like having a top pairing of Whitney and Gilbert. Too weak in the D zone. Causes a bit of am issue defensively for the Heat.

Still a very strong player offensively though. Great skater.

Yea, and ive known that for a while. I just feel that he needs a top D man who stays put as his partner to be back for him if he decides to jump up in the rush which we all know he does.
