So who's everyone pick to win it?

I'm going with Lee Westwood.

My dark horse pick is Graeme McDowell.

I would love to see Eric Compton win... what a story that would be.

Westwood is a strong contender, but a back to back win seems unlikely.

Although Tiger can't hit a fairway to save his life, he might be ok as you can get away without driving that much at Pebble Beach. His 3 wood was ok a few weeks back if I remember correctly.

Im gonna go with Furyk.

Seems like it should be a pretty open field so it should make for a good tourney on one of the best known courses in the US.

Phil should be the favorite, but his ability to come up short in this tourney is remarkable.

As a dark horse i like Luke Donald.

Some early scores...

Mick is even through 4, Weir and Donald even through 5.

Ames +2 after 3.

Mickelson now +2 through 8. Weir tied for 2nd at -1 with a plethora of others...all chasing Kjelsdsen at -3.

The little bit i ahve seen thus far....holy smokes you better keep it in the short stuff cause the rough is thick and ugly. Greens are hard as a rock, so those that can chase the ball up will be in better shape than those who try and land it.

Gonna be a great weekend of golf though...can sense it already.

Tiger off to a very solid start. Even through 3, but 3 very good approach shots.

Looks like it may be similar to 2008, when par wins it.

Tiger finished +3 for the day. That score is a little misleading IMO. He looked in control of what he was doing for the first time in a long while. He got a little unlucky at some point. If he keeps playing like this he could find himself with a shot at it on Sunday.

I agree. I thought Tiger looked solid today... and certainly better than I was expecting. He is striking the ball well, but has to get the putter working. I can't recall Tiger being short on so many putts... A little hesitant because of the firmness of the greens maybe?

Chip-in for birdie on 11 for Tiger, and he moves back to +2 for the tournament.

Only nine guys under par for the tournament so far but low scores can be had today.

Edit: Tiger bogeys 12, to go back to +3.

It's early, but there are 116 of 156 players inside the cut line currently, and only 7 of them in red numbers.

That's a large portion of the field making it to the weekend if it holds.

If over 100 golfers get through there will be some early tee times tomorrow/Sunday.

Is the cut line all of those golfers within ten strokes of the lead?

I'm cheering for Matt Richardson to make the cut. He's an unknown, "adopted" Canadian (fiancee is Canadian), and has become a friend of our family.

Top 60 and ties, plus any players within 10 of the lead. That number I quoted earlier has fallen significantly though, with McDowell going to -4.

There are currently 92 players inside the cut line. If McDowell bogeys his 18th hole (the tough 9th), that puts 109 players inside the cut line.

Richardson is in pretty good shape, sitting at +3 right now, 7 strokes off the lead.

Edit: McDowell three-putts for bogey and puts the cut line at +7, unless anyone passes him on the leaderboard this afternoon.

Yesterday we have Phil screaming at a Marshall and Ian Poulter taking two giant two handers to the edge of the green on 14 after he screwed up that hole.

Tiger isn't the only one showing emotion on the course yet he's the only one who gets criticized for it.

Wow, I feel like I ruined Johnson's life with my comments. McDowell actually played okay yesterday...I mean you shoot even par when you go into the third round of the US Open with a two shot lead and you should probably still be in contention to win. So he did a good job of keeping it together well enough.

Tigers game is too erratic now for him to dominate, but he still has the resolve to hang in these major tournaments.

Tiger just doesn't seem to be able to come up with the clutch shots he used to. His focus isn't what it used to be.

I'm not really surprised though given the last 8 months of his life. The talent is still there obviously, and you saw glimpses of it this week. It seems like he's shaking off rust still. It was only last year that he won 6 events on the PGA tour, and more worldwide.

He will be back, sooner rather than later.

I still think those two knee surgery's have made him a bit more human and have taken away a bit of the edge he used to have against the rest of the field in terms of hitting the ball.

Once he gets his focus and concentration back he should be able to start winning again. But I think the days of him dominating the sport and winning multiple majors every year are gone.

I'm not sure what people expect from a guy who has had his life ripped apart the last 8 months and has only played in 5 tournaments for 2010. The guy has finished top 5 in both majors he has played this year, to me that is impressive all in itself. How would other PGA professionals would fair in the two majors if they only played one tournament a month and without a single tournament before the Masters? I'd guess it would be pretty ugly!

You play alot, how does that happen? How can you shoot 66 one day and 82 the next? What causes such a train wreck?

Even on 18 he smoked the two brilliant shots to get on the green and 3-putted for par.

Or look at Y.E Yang's card if you're bored. He was -1 after 27 holes, right in the middle of everything and then he shot 49 on the back 9 and missed the cut!
