According to the IIHF rankings, Canada is now #1. Pre-Olympic, they were 2nd behind the Russians (2925 points to 2905). With Russia's 6th place finish, they fall to 2nd place. Finland and Sweden switch #3 and #4 spots, however, even with a gold medal Finland will still be behind the Russians.

Slovakia makes the biggest jump going from #10 to #7. Germany is officially one of the top 12 countries as it leapfrogs Denmark. I beleive Germany was in the tournament instead of Denmark because they are a host country for an upcoming tournament. (are they hosting the World Championships?).

So even if we don't win the gold, we can take sollace that we are now the #1 ranked country in the world in ice hockey!

Well there's a kiss of death.

Like I said in another thread if this tournament has taught us anything, it's that rankings on paper are meaningless.

you are "ranked" #1 if you win gold

Where did you find these? The iihf site still has the pre OG rankings. Or are you just projecting what the rankings will be?

Just adding the points earned so far to the pre OG points
