"I hate them," said Ryan Kesler (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/usa/ryan+kesler/1024103/), U.S. center and a player for the Vancouver Canucks (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/van/).

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Hockey-hate-fest-Canada-doesn-rsquo-t-mind-U-S-?urn=oly,221079

Before reading the article I just assumed this has to be Kesler who JMO is a complete jackass to begin with.
Well I can say this Canadian has always hated Kesler and anything Vancouver Canucks.

I wonder how Canuck fans feel about their class act Canuck?

How about post the whole quote?

"I hate them," said Ryan Kesler (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/usa/ryan+kesler/1024103/), U.S. center and a player for the Vancouver Canucks (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/van/). "It's a big rivalry. I wouldn't say I hate them; you have respect for the other team. Canadians expect to win the gold, and anything less is not good enough. It's going to be fun to try and knock them off."
Of course he wants to knock em off. If US doesn't come with the mentally that they want to beat Canada so badly, they won't win. I bet the World Jr's felt the same as Kesler did. And look what it earned them...

"I hate them. . . . I wouldn't say I hate them"

Small insight into what NHL players deal with when trash talking Kesler during a game.

What a dumb hockey player. So glad he's a Canuck.

Later on he said he doesn't really hate them. But nice try.

That being said, I don't mind how he's just as patriotic for his country as we are for ours. Why can't other countries diss us as bad as we diss them? The US gets bashed 24/7 and it's fair game for an American to say it right back. We are the big bad wolf and they want to take us down. Bring it on Yankees.

Jack Johnson said much the same thing.

Brodeur said "Hate is such a strong word. I don't hate anybody. This is hockey."

Are they just xenophobes that hate people from other countries?!?

First, inflammatory title...he may or may not "hate" Team Canada hockey players as he competes against them. A far cry from hating Canada.

Secondly, Johnson's more guilty of "hate" (such as it is) with his previous comments and his actions in this case.

Lastly, those who can't go more than a week on this board without starting an anti-Canucks thread that ends up in the same circle of garbage getting tossed on both sides, should just take that rubbish out of the Olympic thread at least.

How does he say he hates Canada? He says he hates their hockey team, as I'm sure so does every other player on every other national team. Some Canadians are waaay too sensitive about what comes out of the mouths of Americans.

Flabbibulin

Whatever, Canadians have been saying for years and years that they hate America, Americans, American companies, American values, American hicks, American food, American bow ties, American night stands, and Ryan Seacrest.

The hate score for us is now 21,546,186 to 7. I'm sure we can handle it.

Same reason everyone hates the Yankees. We're the best. And Canadians don't mind telling you so. I can see it. There's soo much hype for Team Canada every year, and I'm sure other teams are beyond sick of hearing about how Canada's going to dominate. Personally I don't see what's so wrong with the comments, but maybe that's just me. I just wanna get this game started, finally the REAL Olympic hockey starts!

Gotta say I am a little upset with the OP for the obvious bait and switch going on. It is obvious by reading the article that there is a healthy competitive spirit between these two in the game of hockey. As stated there is an emotional need for the US to beat Canada, and more of a situation of embarrassment that the Canadians want to avoid.

I wonder how out of proportion someone could blow a quote like "We are bigger than Jesus". I suppose if you printed it out of of context we could have had some history to talk about.

I think that fact that Kelser's comments are being taken as a slam on our country is ridiculous

He was talking about how he felt about the players, not our country as a whole. There is a fine line between patriotism and ignorance. Saying Kelser hates Canada because he is not a fan of the players on our team considering the circumstances is pretty ridiculous.

Team USA is to Team Canada what The Canucks are to The Flames. The Fans of the Calgary flames hate Canucks fans and vise versa. Does this mean a poster like "Canuck Hater" hates Canadians? Not at all. Thinking otherwise is pretty ignorant imo

Okay that's fair. I just see it as an American playing a sport that Canadians have claimed as their own forever now and him having to hear over and over how the US players aren't as good because of where they are born. We Canadians do have an arrogance when it comes to hockey.

How even Canuck fans can even defend him after his stupid comments today I have no idea. Canadians will fold? What a little bugger.

Kesler is a complete and utter ######, that being said he is a excellent hockey player and put his money where his mouth was this whole tournament and played very well today.

It annoys me to no end that we have to face him 6 times a year, not just because he's a self absorbed prick, but because he's the type of player that helps a team win championships.

So yes, while I think he's a POS personally with about as much tact as a 5 year old playing battleship for the first time, I actually have a lot of respect for him as a talented hockey player who definately makes the Canucks a more worthy opponent for our glorious Flames. Just my take anyways, and by that I mean if we had him under contract for the same price Vancouver does I'd be a very happy man.

I don't like Kesler...never have. I also don't see him being that great of a player. He's a guy that plays really hard, and he's above average as a player, but he is far from being a star in the NHL - everywhere that is, except Vancouver, where he's God.

I think Kesler is a very effective hockey player, but I don't think his comments were necessary and I was glad to see him and Patrick "I love to play Luongo" Kane getting silver and not gold. Both those guys went out of their way to say comments about Canada and it makes the win that much better.

Canuck fans are pretty split about him now. I think a lot of them are very pissed that he would "dare" speak ill of their "captain." I have to agree with them. If Canada and Finland had played, you would never hear Iggy say these things about Kipper.

Kesler is a competitor.....I'm not a fan of his comments, but I LOVE that he hates to lose, even as part of an underdog team with low expectations going in.

I missed it when the IOC guy put the medal around Keslers neck, did he snap his head back, grab at his face and fall bonelessly to the ice?

LOL i think you've been watching a little too much Pierre McGuire. "Kessler is a competitor". Anyone playing any sport is a "competitor".

So he's a competitor, yet you don't like his comments, yet you love how he hates to lose. I think even Joe Thornton hates to lose.

I think this post can be filed under 'preposterous'

It was better than that. The look of disgust and sadness on the brink of tears. Couldn't have asked for a better moment to soak in as a Flames fan.

I've now heard Parise, Kane, Kesler and Ron Wilson all say that they believed they played well enough to win.

With Kesler saying that they "dominated" overtime... (by my count they got one shot) he just sounds like a delusional whiner. I'm glad he lost and I'm glad he cried.

Certainly they played a good game, but I thought Canada out-chanced them substantially, with their MVP keeping it close.

Yeah I don't know what Kesler is smoking by thinking that. His comments about hating Team Canada didn't bother me but I read that he was talking trash after he scored the tip in goal on Luongo and then to say what he said in the 2nd intermission.....Luongo isn't too happy with him. I hope they kiss and make up soon.

What did he say in the 2nd intermission?

Nothing really. He said that Luongo looked to be fighting the puck a bit so they just wanted to keep getting lots of shots to try and tie it up. It's a media manufactured controversy.

I was expecting worse. I think Loungo did enough to win the game, but I thought that he looked fairly uncertain on some of his saves. And he did bobble the puck on the tieing goal so Kesler wasn't wrong.

And here I am hoping that it causes that team to implode.
