View Full Version : Official "I'm looking for a new job" thread

As it appears we may have a number of people looking for a new job, instead of having a number of threads on the subject we decided that one thread would be best. A few guidelines:

- As this is in the Power Ring you must have 50 posts to post in this thread.
- Post must be for yourself. There is one post in here that was made before the rule, so we will let that one stand.
- Please indicate what kind of work you are looking for.
- Keep in mind that CP is a very public site, so be careful about how much information you post about yourself. Calgarypuck cannot be responsible for the info posted.

Totally serious post, Im looking for work of any kind preferably in the Construction Industry. I have been working in the Concrete Industry for the last 4 years have worked myself up to a lead hand position and run a crew of 10 men. Just tired of the seasonal swing and would like something year round. Im willing to start at any Labourer position and work myself into a trade. Please PM me if you would like my resume email to you.

Thanks.

My friend is suddenly amongst the unemployed and needs a job badly. He is a good man, intelligent, organized and innovative.

He is hoping to find something in distribution and logistics, or fleet management, but will also take driving positions.

He was Manager, Distribution and Logisitics for the last 8 years, but was driving prior to that and still has a class 5 license.

If you have any information on jobs that might suit him, please pm me.

I'm looking for a full time job in the areas of Communication, Public Relations, Sales or Marketing. I have experience in all of the above and a university degree in California. I'm actually looking for a job in the San Francisco Bay Area, so if you know anyone who is hiring for the above mentioned areas, please let me know.

I was laid off due to the horrible economy - our small non profit organization closed down and yesterday was my last day at Easter Seals Bay Area. I am available to work immediately and willing to commute outside of San Jose as far as San Francisco.

Thanks!

Errr yes... but this is for mechanical equipment. I guess they wanted someone that focused on mech but knew the in's and out's of the industry.

On that note, now that they hired the PEng, I am out of work after 3 years of dedication.

I am now looking for a Design/Drafting job, experienced mainly with 3D in Autodesk Inventor. Also into Quality Control/Assurance including ISO 9001 implementation and maintenance.

Anyone looking for someone needing a part time job? Something that's not fast food hopefully.

I currently do have a job but I am not given many hours since I'm not full time. Aside from working every Monday, my schedule is fairly sporadic. So I am basically looking for something that can sort of fit my schedule. (And don't tell me to quit that job, because I love it and I work with great people).

I have experience in the customer service industry, a little bit of experience with construction, I've also done respite work with kids/teens. If it matters, I have my own vehicle.

Hi!

Looking for a new job.

For the last two years I have been teaching and tutoring kids with learning and developmental disabilities, but am looking for something new. While teaching will always be a passion of mine, I have recently been informed through some comprehensive career appraisals that I am more adept at working with my hands than anything else. Prior to that, I was a university student but have been working construction/labour jobs since I was 16.

I am a fantastic problem solver, think well in three dimensions and have great manual dexterity and fine motor skills. I'm mechanically inclined, get along great with people and generally have a very broad skill base. Clean cut, clean criminal record, key holder in my last three positions with extensive customer service, warehouse and production experience. I am a precise and deliberate guy who churns out quality work with an extreme eye for detail.

The tricky part is, I am in Vancouver. Any Vancouverites use/look at the CP Power Ring?

What I'm looking for:

Some trade or production facility that would take on a relative new comer who learns fast and doesn't mind grunt work and getting dirty as long as I am learning. I don't smoke or do drugs, have an easy going, positive attitude and am looking into trade school for the coming year.

I also wear my Flames hat everywhere.

*fingers crossed*

I'm in-between jobs! Just finished building a database application for a Calgary company.

Most of my experience is in software development (7+ years) doing mostly ORACLE PL/SQL and Powerbuilder. Just graduated with a BA last summer. Also have done bussing and security guard work in the summers while I was at university.

Pretty open to all sorts of different short term work, I'm trying to move out to Vancouver in the next year. Anything in front of house restaurant industry (server/bartender) or any sort of short term software development contract would be obvious choices but I'm a quick learner who can pick up most things pretty easily and am pretty open to any kind of work at this point.

If anybody has or knows of some short term work (3-6 months would be ideal) in Calgary doing anything that pays half decent throw me a PM. I'm willing to be trained up.

Or if anybody is Vancouver based and needs help, I'd move out there earlier.

For anyone who's done the strengths finder thing, my results came back as learning, individualization, input, competitiveness and flexibility as my five greatest strengths.

I'm looking for a graphics designer position in Calgary. I'm very creative and hard working and take pride in my work. I've used Photoshop almost daily for 11 years and have self-taught myself many programs. My portfolio may not be as deep as it should be but I know I have the ability to work at any graphic design firm.

Hey guys,

High school (completing grade 11) student here, looking for a summer job. I know I could look in a lot of other places, but I'm not really looking for a conventional teenaged summer job. I'm interested in the financial sector, and am looking to that for university. I want to test the waters, if you will, beforehand, by checking out what it's like for a couple of months. So if anyone is looking for an office assistant or anything like that over the summer, be it accounting, analysis, banking, brokerage, etc. please fire me a PM.

By the time summer rolls around, I'll have completed my Alberta high school math (Pure 30 & calculus), and if I maintain my average, will have achieved a 90+ average doing a full IB course load, along with lots of volunteering and other extracurriculars. I'd love to find something to do, so if you have any questions, feel free to fire off a PM.

Thanks!

So now I'm getting serious about looking for a new job.

Just a little about me

Please PM me if you have, or know of a position.

I currently have a full time finance job in the Oil and Gas industry and I am a student in the Certified Managerial Accounting program (Module 3).

I'm highly motivated and would be available to work free of charge after 5 pm or on weekends.

Hi all

I hope that someone checks this out. I've moved onto a new role that involves recruiting for specific SAP based contracting and permanent roles.

I have two requirements right now and I wanted to see if CP had any hidden genius

First role requires a SAP technical consultant with a certification in either workflow or ABAP. It would prefered that you have 10 years of consulting experience with 2 years of workflow.

Please PM me if your interested

The second role is for a technical specialist, we need to find someone who is Netweaver certified, and also JAVA and ABAP certified.

Again please PM me if you want to discuss more.

I just finished my courses for an MSc. - Management degree at the University of Lethbridge and I've decided to take some time off from finishing my thesis so I need a full time job. I have a degree in General Management from the University of Lethbridge and am looking for something full time.

This isn't necessarily to find a job from another poster on the forum, but even if you have some contacts in Lethbridge/Calgary that might be looking for someone. Everything is appreciated!

It could very well have been me. I spoke right up front to Joy that I would be posting a review of my experience with her work on CP and she was fine with it.

With that said, I have not posted such a review as I really do not like talking about the negative.

The positives:

- Very friendly and accommodating for getting in touch
- low price
- good design on resume rebuild
- quick

The negatives:

- used google to fill in the blanks for some sections rather than contacting me to verify the information. Most of this was incorrect and it caused me a great deal of embarrassment (and possibly a job)

I guess I would recommend her but with the caveat that everything should be scrutinized for accuracy. I made the mistake in assuming that since I was paying and providing the information, it would all be correct.

I am going to have to shoot this down as a well intended defense of your friend/colleague.

a) nothing was found out about me from a quick search - the search she undertook were for details from a previous employer - which were given in the first place! As an example, let's say I worked at LBG Securities in Calgary (given information) but the resume said that I worked in Saskatchewan. A second example would be from a romanized spelling of an institution I worked at in Korea. Once again the location was given but it ended up on the resume in China.

In summary, it was extremely lazy and poor way to go about confirming information.

b) none of the information was about me.

You get what you pay for I guess.

I reworked what she presented to me and in fact rework it for every application. No two potential employers would get the same resume from me.

Hi Guys,

I graduated in 2013 with a degree in Economics, with minors in Business and Poli Sci from UVic.

Presently, I am working in sales (sales associate, between inside/outside sales) at an equipment (pump) rental company. I'm looking for new opportunities, whether they be in technical sales, or analyst opportunities.

I have also completed my Canadian Securities Course as well.

Please PM if anybody has anything that might be of interest, I'm pretty open, just not loving the current gig right now.

I'm looking for a new job! I love where I work, but the opportunities for progression are limited.

I have a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology as well as an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate from the University of Calgary. I have spent the last seven years working in various roles for the Workers Compensation Board including case management, customer service supervisor and quality analyst.

I have significant experience in disability management, health promotion, data analysis and process evaluation and project management/initiative rollout. Generally, all experience is related to health management and disability management, however, my data analysis and process evaluation skills are transferable to other industries. I also have experience in setting up disability management programs and acting as an employer liaison for WCB and short term/long term disability providers.

Please let me know if you are aware of any opportunities or could use my skill set. I would be happy to meet with you to discuss how I could help you!

Thanks!

Liz

I'm a professional engineer with reservoir and production/development engineering experience, significant regulatory work as well as reservoir simulation, both SAGD and conventional EOR. I also have done significant A&D and economic analysis of projects and full companies. Open to contract or part time as well, and would be excited to jump right in at a start-up/junior.

I see that this forum hasnt been used in a while... :)

My son is interested in moving to Calgary (why wouldnt he be?!)

He has just completed his first year Parts and Materials Technician apprenticeship at NAIT and has enough hours to complete years 2 and 3. Unfortunately his current employer is making him wait for reasons unknown.

He would very much like to work at a Dealership (he has Ford experience right now) and doesnt really have a preference but his affinity is towards Audi, Nissan, etc.

If anyone could assist me in with any leads for him that would be great!

He would also wouldnt mind industrial parts as well.

Thanks CP in advance.

I'm looking to shift career gears - having been working in the fitness industry for the past 14 years I'm looking to enter a new field.

Most of my duties over the past four years have been more administrative than fitness-based, so I am experienced in data entry, record keeping, general accounting and scheduling. Pre-fitness I studied history and political science, so I'm comfortable conducting research and data retrieval.

Due to my fitness background I am able to lift heavy objects safely and repeatedly, so physical work is no issue either.

I have current certification in Standard First Aid, CPR/AED Level C; CSEP Certified since 2010.

if anyone has suggestions, advice, leads or the like fire me a PM. Thanks.
