We recently cleaned up our basement and we have a couple of boxes of old text books (>10 years old)...any idea where I could recycle those?

I doubt anyone will take them. Basically, rip off the hard covers, and recycle the pages with mixed paper at your local recycling depot.

If you bring them to the University, they sometimes have a table labeled "Free Textbooks" in front of the bookstore where you can deposit them, and have them reused.

Really old text books (10 years old) - I got quite a chuckle out of this one. I have text books that my dad had when he was in school (he was in school in the 1930's). I have text books from when I was in high school - in the 1960's. 10 year old text books are pretty new to me

I took them to a library. They won't put them on the shelf for people
to borrow, but they will put them in a book sale. Whether or not they
still do that, I don't know.

What kind of books are they? If they are useful, I would even take them haha.

I am a science major, so I like science books... or engg.

I dont know where there's a place like this in Calgary, but in St. Albert here, theres a bookstore in the mall that takes old books and sells them for cheap. All the profits go to charity.

Call the UofC book store. Once in a while a charity comes around and takes old texts off on their hands and they ship em to a 3rd world country.

I can't remember exactly when (I think in the spring), but every year the fire station will take in any textbooks for donations. I did it last year, where I brought a bunch of my textbooks and even my sister's old textbooks from the early 90s and they took them all without question. Try giving your local fire hall a call.
