Boucher and Nedved both turn up gems in their farewell game as leafs. First and third stars in the game. The Leafs organization would like to thank them for their tremendous efforts on our behalf this year and wish them luck wherever life takes them.

This win over a conference rival fighting for a playoff spot is huge, as things continue to look up for new (well sorta...there seem to be lots of newer guys around already  ) Leafs GM Superfraggle

FREDDY...FREDDY...FREDDY!

For the second straight game the Detroit Red Wings came out and spanked the Calgary Flames in every area of the game. This time on the scoreboard as well. Freddy Brathwaite who has been on again off again made enough routine saves to preserve the victory. The top line of Daymond Lankow, Shane Doan and Brendan Morrow clicked for 8 points. The newly accuired Andrei Markov made his presence felt on a line with Danil Markov. He chipped in with a assist and several hits and shots. At the end of the game it was announced that Roman Checkmanek who has been feeling the effects of the flu for a little over a month is now back to 100% and ready to start playing again. The Wings have now played over half of there games with the lowest rated backup goalie in the league. "Team defence is the key to any championship."

ON THE FARM

The AHL's first place team Grand Rapids got hammered today. Jean Sebastein Aubin who was just plucked off the golf course appears to of shown up over weight and out of shape. Despite not playing today he is already feeling the effects of his first full practise.

Game Story

The Los Angeles King came to town and the Lightning sent them away with a loss. After a long winless streak the Lightning were able to find their scoring touch and defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 Wednesday night. The Lightning were lead offensively by Tim Connolly, Scott Young and Brad Bombadir each scoring a goal and an assist, with Young netting the game winner.

GM Moon:

“To get offensive contributions form those guys is what this team needs to be successful. Also, despite the three goals John really stood on his head and allowed us the opportunity to come back and win.”

The Lightning will attempt to continue their good play as they head to Montreal tomorrow to battle the Canadians.

Whoops, I thought the games were resuming tomorrow...

I swear it's impossible to win with auto lines, because really when you double the opposition's shots (42-21) you should win. Oh well nice work by the boys to pepper their net and get early goals in each period. Bad work by the boys allowing late goals, especially the game winner with less than two minutes left in the game. :boom:

Well yesterday the CPHLFA Chief nerd or whoever he is asked why goaltending was a concern in Edmonton despite the Oilers having the second best GAA in the league. Well todays 3-2 loss to Nashville is a perfect example to demonstrate why goaltending WAS a concern in Edmonton.

Fact the Oilers are now 25-14-0-3 on the season
Fact the Oilers allow a league low 24.2 shots against per game on average
Fact former Oiler starter Vokun now has a record of 15-13-0
Fact Oiler backups Emery, Hurme, and Caron are a combined 10-1-0
Fact Vokun has lost 4 consecutive games yielding 15 goals against in the Oiler nets. The Oilers were outshot in one of those games, and evened up in one other.

Although Vokun is a good cheap goalie with upside he did not appear to be the man who could get the Oilers to the top of the league.

Again the Oilers turn in a good effort against a very good team but are unable to win the goaltending matchup. The Oilers jumped out to an early lead, but are unable to hold it in the third period. Shanahan finally shows why the Oilers aquired him and turns in a solid effort with a goal and assist. Marian Hossa is showing signs of waking up of late also and also scored for the Oil. Next up a date with the Flyers tommorrow.

Curtis Sanford had a great performance as he beat the very strong Edmonton Oilers. Unfortunately there was also bad news as Heatley had his 2nd major injury of the year.

THRASHERS 6 at ISLANDERS 1

What the heck got into Igor? Mr. Ulanov has a career game tonight.

1 Goal (GWG), 1 Assist, 2 Points, +4 Rating, 3 Shots, 13 Mins of Icetime, and was the games 1st Star.

Deadmarsh also makes great use of his limited icetime. 2 goals & +3 rating in 7 mins of icetime.

Other good news... Derek Morris is back in the lineup for the Thrashers next game.

Islanders no match (http://www.livejournal.com/users/nyislanderscphl/)

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Glen Murray and Adam Deadmarsh each had a pair as the Atlanta Thrashers demolished the hometown Islanders 6-1.

Chemistry is something that often comes only with time. Sometimes however, even with time chemistry fails to materialize.

Before the game Wednesday night, the New York Islanders were eagerly anticipating the match-up against the league's best team.

"It'll be a good chance to see how we stack up with those guys," Damphousse had said.

Well, the result on Wednesday night was a 6-1 thrashing as Atlanta danced around the lifeless Islanders for the full 60 minutes, out-scoring, out-hitting, and generally out-playing them for the duration of the game.

"We stood around tonight and waited for things to happen," Islander coach said afterwards. "Nobody stepped up to lead. Everyone was waiting around... watching."

In particular, Marc Savard had a disappointing game finishing with a -4 on the night giving the puck away twice which led directly to goals from Deadmarsh and Sykora.

Savard, however can not be the only one to blame. Three of his teammates finished the night with a -3 rating and 4 of Atlanta's 6 goals were direct results of Islander give-aways.

"We can't expect Rolo to stop the puck when he's assuming we have possession behind the net," Adam Foote said, shaking his head. "We just weren't into the game at all tonight."

The loss drops the Islanders to 7th in the Gretzky Conference with a handful of teams snapping at their heels in pursuit. It's obvious worry is starting to creep into the minds of the team. They'll get a chance to address this worry Thursday night when they visit the Canucks in Vancouver.
