The Minnesota Wild have announced the acquisition of veteran centre Dave Scatchard. Scatchard heads to the Twin Cities from Washington along with a third rounder in exchange for bluechip prospects Ales Hemsky and Ari Ahonen.

GM and Head Coach Grant Farhall commented on the deal:

"Dave is a guy we've liked for a long time and had our eye on. Certainly we are paying a steep price to get him but we hope he can really bring some energy and experience to our third line. We've struggled to find the right combination of players on that line and its cost us some points. Hopefully Dave will be the guy to bring it altogether. He'll be playing with Lapointe and Niedermayer which is a combination we like".

Capitals continue to stockpile young talent. With Ahonen, Auld and Fluery the Capitals are certainly set in net for many years to come. Hemsky's skill will also come in handy up front as the Capitals have lost an awful lot of scoring talent from the forward ranks. That just gives the young players virtually unlimited opportunities to learn on the job.
