View Full Version : CP Photo Challenge #6 : Black & White/Sepia -- WINNER: JohnnyB

BlackEleven
11-24-2008, 11:13 AM
Theme: B&W or sepia - Photos where the colours are either B&W or sepia tones.

Rules:

All photos must be no larger than 800x600 (or something close)
Please post only 1 photo per post (make a new post for new pics)
Post as many photos as you like, just keep it on topic
Vote by clicking the "Thanks" button at the bottom of the post
You may vote for 3 finalists.
Once the challenge leader (winner from previous challenge) chooses when to end the voting, he/she will change the thread title to explain when voting ends.
Once voting for the finalists is over, the challenge leader will tally up the votes and post (in 3 separate posts) the finalists.
Challenge leader again changes thread title to say when voting ends
Then, everyone comes back and votes on those 3 finalists.
You are only allowed 1 vote in the finals, so choose wisely
Winner of the challenge will start a new challenge thread and copy/paste these rules in the original post for consistency.
Don't be too specific with the theme nor too general. Try and get a theme that people can contribute to. Don't pick the red african ant of Kenya as a theme... nobody will post. Likewise, don't make the theme "stuff on earth"
Have fun.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me in the last challenge.

In the interest of full disclosure, these are digital conversions of colour shots that I realised after might look good in B&W, as they didn't have much colour anyways.

These are the Duomo in Florence. I already posted this one in colour in the Architecture theme.

And now a test for the photographer....... name of the flower?

Damn, my wife just went out too... These are in our front garden. Ummm, I think she said they are dogsbane.

Could be way off, I usually call them those bright yellow daisy looking things. (Horticulture is not one of my gifts)

EDIT: Hah... just looked up dogsbane... not even close!!

EDIT 2: I had to cheat, but I think I found them. Rudbeckia. I know we have some in there because I remember my wife telling me that, and they look like the right ones. I'm pretty sure I remember her saying the ones with the big leaves were rudbeckia.

EDIT 3: I thought about it some more and remembered that we also have Ligularia up there. So I looked it up. Now I think that's what it might be. I think the rudbeckia have kind of a spear shaped leaf and the ligularia is kind of circular with a notch cut out where the stem comes up. Damned if I know!!

EDIT 4: Wife just got home... It's leopard's-bane. :bag:

It will depend on the time of year they flower.

Me, when I looked a the photo, I thought Leopard's Bane. It has the same flowers, bright green leaf though, AND flowers in the spring.

Now, if it has purplish greenish leaves and flowers in the fall, yup, it would be Ligularia.

Most Rudbeckia have brown centers, too hard to tell from the black and white photo, but does not seem to be the case.
