UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Hours after the Islanders shipped Mike Comrie to the San Jose Sharks, Islanders GM went out and grabbed Ron Francis from Washington.

Aware of the restructuring in Washington, Islanders GM decided to get into the mix as well on Thursday evening with the end result seeing Ron Francis headed to the Islanders in exchange for prospect Clayton Stoner and the ever versatile Rico Fata.

The Islanders were apparently also coveting forward Steve Yzerman and defenceman Al MacInnis from the Capitals but a deal could not be agreed upon. Rumoured as being part of that deal was rookie Alexander Semin, a player which the Islanders have been hesitant on releasing for anyone.

With the moves over the last 24 hours, the Islanders bid farewell to Mike Comrie, Valerie Bure, Rico Fata, Ivan Novolseltsev and Clayton Stoner. Added to the mix on the Island are Jason Arnott, Marc Savard, Mike Grier and Ron Francis.
