***FAN WIRE***
Calgary, AB - December 22, 2004
This message is directed to the 5 CPHLFA Members, 30 CPHL GMs, the Commissioner, and the Assistant GMs as well.
The last couple of weeks has been an exciting time for the CPHLFA. We have a lot of exciting news and initiatives we'd like to elaborate on.
First off, I am proud to announce that, as per the report yesterday, we have received a huge, unprecidented sponsorship from TSN, Sportsnet and ESPN. Starting in 2005, we will receive 320,000 per year, per network for the next 5 years. This money is to be used promote various fan initiatives such as official CPHLFA Tailgate parties before games, the fan-friendly team standings, and various charitable events. The networks offered us this money so to enhance the fan experience just a little bit more. Fans having good times at home games will want to follow their team more, including watching games on TV. Both sides are very pleased with this arrangement, and this secures the long-term viability of the CPHLFA. We will be around for the forseeable future.
I would now like to outline two of the initiatives we'll be taking in. There will be more to come as the season progresses.
-the CPHLFA will be sponsoring Tailgate parties before all games at every arena. There will be BBQ, drinks, clowns and balloons for the kids, live music...anything and everything that will bring fans together to have a good time before the game - setting the mood for after the game. We will ask fans to donate a dollar when attending, of which will go to a local children's charity. The CPHLFA will also match the donations made. At these tailgate parties, the networks broadcasting the games will have a roving camera where fans can speak their minds. Several "Fandeminutes" segments will be aired throughout the game during breaks. It is our hope that we will be able to forward the segments to the GMs, and such segments will be aired on the Jumbotrons.
-the fan-friendly scorecard. This will be our biggest undertaking to determine which teams love their fans the most. There will be several variables used to determine the record, including, but not limited to: record, goals scored, quality of press releases, fan initiatives taken, fair play, quality of rivalries etc. Each monthly winner will receive a thumbs up, with the season winner receiving two thumbs up.
I'd also like to address a concern we've had from the on-set of our formation. It appears that there is currently some friction between the CPHLFA and some GMs. I would like to re-iterate that we are not here to be adversaries to any party. We are here to ensure that there is positive spectating and high quality of play by the teams - that all fans can cheer hard and loud for their teams. Including the Bruins. We would like to extend an olive branch to said GMs and start from a clean slate. Remember, thumbs up are at stake.
In closing, the fans are looking forward to cheering for their favorite team for the rest of the season, and we're all very excited about the future of the organization.
On behalf of the CPHLFA team, and in fandemonium,
