Wild Give Tender New Defensive Pair for Xmas
Xmas has come early for the Wild's goaltenders in the form of a new pair of blueliners.
For much of the season the Wild's 5/6 defensive pairing has been a weakness for the club. Moreover, the team's record when any of their top 4 blueliners has been out, is vastly inferior to when all 4 are in the lineup. Minnesota Wild GM has to this point tried to get by with a series of depth blueliners in the final pairing including Jason Doig, Mike Wilson, Patrick Traverse, Chris Tamer, and Glen Wesley. Although Welsey and Tamer have performed adequately, clearly they were far from ideal solutions, and on Tuesday Farhall made steps to correct the problem.
In his first move Farhall moved Traverse and AHLer Alexandre Korolyuk to the Devils in exchange for beteran blueliner Murray Baron and a fifth rounder. Farhall then followed up with a second deal that saw prospects Roman Tesliuk and Mark Tobin shipped out in exchange for 31 year old blueliner Jason Cullimore.
Farhall explained the deals.
"We approached this trying to improve our final pairing without touching the main core of our team. We weren't sure if this would be possible but thankfully we found the right deals to allow us to make it happen. Jason and Murray are both experienced, dependable blueliners that should help us out. This also gives us increased depth in case we run into injuries. Glen and Chris (Tamer) have been solid for us and will still play a vital role in our drive for the playoffs"
To clear cap and roster space the Wild shipped young winger Ales (don't call me Alice!) Hemsky to the minors. Andre Roy will fill his spot on the fourth line.
Both deals are pending league approval but are expected to go through.
