SABRES LOSE AGAIN
Fatigue continues to mount

No one can be surprised that the hapless Buffalo Sabres continue their losing ways. Playing their 3rd game in 3 nights, 5 regulars were showing signs of fatigue or injury and were rested as a result. Sarich,Pallfy,Fedotenko and Regehr had their icetime reduced and Giguere was given the night off. The Sabres lost by a goal, to the Islanders. Nils Ekman continued his strong play, with his 4th goal of the season--all coming in the last 3 games since being elevated to the third line with newcomer Pahlsson and Grant Marshall. The sabres play again tomorrow, their 4th game in 4 nights and plan on losing

Evgeni Nabokov (DEV), 37 saves out of 40 shots, T, 12-11-3

December 17th, 2004

Well the Panthers are now one of the hottest teams in the entire CPHL with a record of 6-4 over their last 10 games. With a win today over the Senators, the Panthers leap-frogged the Sabers into 25th place.

"We are playing great hockey right now" said a smiling Penney. Since we aquired KEVIN WEEKS, we have had a winning record for the first time this year. We know it is a long journey to a playoff spot but you just never know what might happen" said Penney.

On several occasions this year, the Panthers have traded away great talent for excellent prospects. They plan on building the team for the future. But with the recent success of the Panthers, one might begin to wonder if Panther GM Dave Penney will make a few moves to try and better this team to make a serious playoff run.

"Not a chance" said Penney. "We will continue to juggle our lines to match up with our opponent but we will not be trading any of our youth to try and succeed this year. It would be great to make the playoffs but that is stretching it at this point. But with a few more wins, we actually won't be that far back of several team" said Penney.

The Panthers face the Islanders tomorrow night where they will start rookie goaltender Alex Auld. It is believed that Mr. Penney want both Weeks and Garon rested and ready when the face the Penguins the very next night,

"Yes we are lookign past this game against the Islanders" said Penney. "Realistically we should lose that game, especially if they decide to start Roloson. But we have faith that Auld will keep it a close game" said Penney.

Isles edge Sabres 4-3 (http://www.livejournal.com/users/nyislanderscphl/)

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Rookie Alexander Semin scored at 11:23 of the third to help his team past the Sabres.

The Islanders jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the game with markers from Tverdovsky at 00:55 of the first and Samsonov at 13:04, also in the first.

The Islanders fired 12 shots at Sabres' goalie Martin Gerber in the first period alone, while the Sabres answered back with a mere 5 shots at Roloson.

The tide shifted in the second however -- in the shots department, at least -- where Buffalo managed 15 shots on Roloson, beating him once when a Josef Vasicek shot found its way behind a partially screened Islanders' goalie.

Answering back for the Islanders in the same frame was Filip Kuba with his 7th of the season on a one-timer off of a cross-ice feed from Mike Comrie.

With the Islanders up by a pair to start the third, the Sabres started their come-back scoring first on the powerplay when Vasicek swept in the rebound from the side of the net behind a sprawled Roloson before Niels Ekman tied up the game at 09:33 with his 4th of the season undressing Chris Phillips before beating Roloson with a perfect shot to the top corner.

Two minutes later, Mike Ricci intercepted an errant Kim Johnsson pass from behind the Sabres' net, fed a soft pass to Dallas Drake along the side boards who eventually connected with rookie Alexander Semin who was all alone with Martin Gerber at his mercy.

With the win, the Islanders extend their winning streak to 3 games. Next up for the Isles are the red-hot Florida Panthers who beat the Ottawa Senators in overtime by a score of 4-3 on Friday night.

Senators Backup Goalies again cost the Sens a game.
This would be the 4th time this year that we have had a team come back from 3-1 or 4-1 scores to win games on us. All with the Backups in net.. THis is unacceptible. We are activly searching for a new Backup in Ottawa.

Still we did manage to get points out of the Thrashers and Panthers instead of Loses and 0 points like I anticipated we would get.

The good news is we are Finally healthy again after losing various star players the past 20 games. Just in time for a very busy schedule. Next up a rematch with the Preds who beat us and our backup 2-1 that last time we played.

WINGS GET SPANKED

With the number one goalie again watching from the sidelines it was almost like the fans new Freddy B was going to put on a brilliant christmas light show. "there was flashing lights everywhere and some say they even saw Santa leaving the Predators dressing room after the game." Patrick Elias who was brought over a month ago again started to hear the hometown boo birds. Everytime he touched the puck the fans would chant Patrickkkkkkkk_________U SUCK! Elias who was brought over to help lead the team by example has not found any chemistry and has found himself playing on the teams second line. Some good news however as team doctor has cleared Daymond Lankow to begin skating again. Injured just last night and expected to be out a couple weeks Daymond bought some duck tape and wrapped it around his boo boo. Jason Wooley fresh off a new contract extension thanked the team owner by forgetting to take his skate guards off and cracking his mellon on the ice as he steeped out for the national anthem. Woolley is expected back later next week.

Watch underdogs. Pens, Stars and Hawks combined for 5 points tonight.

Hawks despite tied with Jackets, felt to sole last spot as Stars and Pens both win tonight.

Kovalev got a miscound at 11:12 of the 1st, Brent Johnson rebounded for 1st star performance, Sean Bergenheim continues his tremendous rookie season and Claude Lemieux scores the game tying goal when you needed it most, from setup by Marcel Goc who earned the first point of his career. Konstantin Koltsov was another rookie who registered the first point of his CPHL career. Yeah, that's what Hawks are all about.

OIL SLICK KILLS DUCKS
So Ducks play dirty

Well the Anaheim Mighty Ducks figured the way to slow down the red hot Oilers was going to be to go out and injure Oiler players. When the dust settled the Oilers had sat the little duckies down, force fed those stupid frickin pallets down their god dam**d throats and thouroughly whooped the Ducks collective asses to the tune of 9-2. In the process Oilers superstar defenceman Matthias Ohlund suffered a concussion on a bizzare hook by Janny Dr.Hook Ninimaa, and Boby Holik was sidelined with a bruised sternem after a Joffrey Lupul ran at him, jumped and led with his head football style. Losing the two soldiers early in the battle seemed to rally the troops though, as the Oilers came together and annihilated the Ducks.

The Oilers again opened the scoring in the first when Stephan Quintal was able to beat Steve Passmore from just inside the center RED line. But the Ducks responded quickly with a goal from Rob Blake, and Raffi Torres gave them the lead 4 minutes later. But that was the end for the Ducks as the Oilers began an assault of 8 consecutive goals against laughable Duck goaltending and team play. Bates Battaglia, Kristian Huselius, and Vincent Lecavalier tallied goals in the latter half of the first period to give the Oilers a 4-2 lead at the first intermission.

Brian Leetch tallied a powerplay marker to make the score 5-2 Oilers after 2. In the third the Oilers showed their superior conditioning and turned the red light on 4 more times making the final 9-2. Alex Frolov, Marian Hossa, Vincent Lecavalier, and red hot Tom Poti were able to beat up on Brad AHL Topping for the second straight day. Sebastian Caron showed what a good backup does and turned aside 26 of 28 shots for his third straight win.

Lecavalier and Brian Leetch both enjoyed 4 point nights for the Oilers. Marian Hossa tallied 3 points and 4 other players enjoyed 2 point efforts. The win was the Oilers 8th in a row since Sylvanfan and Bobby Schmautz beat the equipmentless players with sticks at practice 2 weeks ago. The Oilers remain atop the Howe conference with 43 points only 2 off of the top spot in the CPHL. Today marked Sylvanfan's 20th game with the Oilers, and in that stretch the Oilers have posted a 16-4-0-2 record for 34 points (last year it took him 86 games to get that many points with the Panthers, and the dumbass only won 14 all year long). The Oilers have outscored opponents 97-46 in that stretch, and are now the top scoring team in the CPHL on a per game basis and rank 2nd in goals against. Next up for the battered Oilers is a game against those Jekyll and Hyde Caps again.

Swampy Times

Meadowlands-The New Jersey had to battle their way through a rash of injuries in today’s game vs. the Kings and the end result was a 3-3 tie. The Devils can thank their goaltender Evgeni Nabokov for preserving a point for the team. Nabby made 37 saves as the Devils were out shot once again this time by a margin of 40-21.

The Kings opened the scoring just 8 minutes into the first period when Alex Tanguay scored his 8th of the year. The Devils scored 2 goals, one by Cassels the second by Andreychuk, in 45 seconds to give the Devils a short lived lead as the Kings got an equalizer from Axelsson just over 2 minutes later. Mark Recchi gave the Devils the lead with about 8 minutes remaining with his 18th goal of the year. However, with Recchi in the penalty box, the Kings tied the game with a power play goal from Bergeron with just 54 seconds remaining in regulation. Overtime settled nothing, as the Devils failed to get a shot on net in the extra period.

The Devils penalty killing was great tonight killing of 10-11 King power plays, but the Kings scored with the man advantage when they needed it the most.

The Devils will welcome Andrew Ference, Murray Baron, and Nik Hagman back for the next game in Tampa. Their replacements tonight Matt Walker, Martin Grenier, and JP Vigier played 20, 9, and 11 minutes respectively and showed that they can play at the cphl level even if it is just a few minutes a game. “Its always important for the young guys to give coaching staff confidence in them and the kids showed us some good things tonight” GM Walsh said following the game.

Next up: Sunday afternoon in Tampa.

Normally, you would think 5 powerplay goals in one game would have any manager ecstatic, but Assistant General Manager Superfraggle for the Washington Capitals had something else on his mind, "We win a game 6-1 and our team still can't manage to come up better than even 5 on 5!!! Martin played a great game, though...everybody else better look out: we're on our way up!" This somewhat bi-polar attitude has pretty much everyone around confuzzled as heck, but most are just shrugging it off with a "hey we won! Who cares?" Superfraggle also commented briefly on the poor showing in Portland today, as Corey Schwab got the night off in favour of Simon Lajeunesse, who again proverbially produced scat in the bed, in a disappointing 8-0 loss.
