SABRES BACK ON TRACK WITH CLOSE WIN
Suffer yet another minor injury

Less than 24 hours after losing a one goal game, the Sabres respond with a one goal victory over Pavel Trnka and the Colorado Avalanche. The Sabres lept out to an early lead on unassisted goals by Palffy and Prospal, and then held on for a win when the Rucchin-Fedotenko-Marshall line clicked for the 3rd goal of the night. It was a costly win for Buffalo, who lost D Cory Sarich shortly after getting Scott Niedermayer back. This means young J-M Liles will return to Buffalo. The Sabres continue to kick tires looking for a 3rd pairing Dman. Sabres will play their 3 game in 3 nights versus the Leafs tomorrow.

Game Story

Well shaking the team up with the big trade only a day before seems to have breathed some life into the Tampa Bay Lightning as they came away with a 4-2 road win against the Dallas Stars. The new players played a big role in their first game with Curtis Brown potting two goals and two assists for Taylor Pyatt.

The Tampa goaltending was solid as well with Grahame making 13 saves on 15 shots before getting injured and being replaced by Potvin who was a perfect 9 for 9.

GM Moon:

“This is the way we expected to play all year long. We came out and were finally able to put some points on the board. The new guys played well and I hope that they can maintain their form for us.”

Tomas Kloucek returned to his goon ways as he collected a total of 16 penalty minutes. The early report on the injury to John Grahame is that he is out day to day with a groin injury. Trevor Kidd will be called up to replace him until he is ready to return.

Springfield Falcons continued to struggle as they drop a 6-2 game to Houston.

Tampa next host Detroit on Friday where they hope to build on this win and get a win streak started.

Rangers 5 - Hawks 2

Keith Tkachuk played his last game as a Ranger, of course the guy gets injured 2 minutes into the game. Lucky for the Flames Keith is okay but his condition rating took a hit. For some reason Keith seems to be injury proone lately.

Rangers Outshot the Hawks 35-24. The game was a very close contest. The difference was the Rangers PowerPlay.

Game Stars

1 - Radek Bonk (RAN) - 1 goal / 1 assist / 2 points
2 - Cory Stillman (RAN) - 1 goal / 1 assist / 2 points
3 - Andrei Markov (RAN) - 1 goal / 1 point

Rangers would like to nominate Cory Stillman for player of the week. In his last 7 games Cory has 7 goals & 7 Assists.

Next Game: Panthers

Leafs Annihilate Oilers
Oilers made to look like worst team in Hockey today

Saku Koivu returned to the Leaf lineup today and combined with Tony Amonte and Paul Kariya to absolutely destroy the Oilers 4-3 today. With Koivu in the lineup the Leafs were able to move uber sniper Petr Nedved to the second line giving the Leafs the best one two punch in the history of hockey.

Amonte opened the scoring on a Leaf powerplay as Koivu and Kariya combined to set him up. The Oilers responded with a powerplay marker of their own when Jay Bouwmeester finished off a nice passing play by the Oilers 20 and under contigent of Spezza and Zherdev. But Amonte and Kariya responded just over a minute later to make it 2-1 Leafs.

The Oilers tallied the only marker in the second when Radek Dvorak scored his team leading 8th goal on the powerplay from Leetch and Rafalski. Leaf tender Mikka Kiprusoff (a former player for Sylvanfan) was stellar turning aside the other 10 Oiler shots directed his way, with many of those being spectacular saves.

The Leafs defence put the game to rest in the third as pillars of strength Karl Dykhuis and Hal Gil tallied goals with Gill's being the winner. Again the dynamic duo of Kariya and Amonte were responsible for getting the puck to Gill in a situation where he could do nothing but laugh as he tapped the puck into the open cage. The Oilers did tie the game up briefly in the third when Ales "I'm on the trade block" Hemsky actually took a shot on goal after taking a brilliant feed from Zubov. The big difference in the game was the play of Kiprusoff vs. Vokun as Kipper was great and Vokun was average. The play of the Leafs top three lines was also superior to that of the Oilers, and Jay Bouwmeester suffered a tough game in his own end. The only bright spots for the Oilers was the play of the 4th line, and another steady performance from Leetch and Foote.

Tommorrow the Oilers will return home to face GM Sylvanfan's former squad the Panthers. Rumors suggest that Sylvanfan considered the prospect of adding a couple of former Panther centres to his lineup but decided against it. It appears to be biting him in the ass as Spezza continues to stink it up in Edmonton and act like his dad owns the Brick. Expect another Oiler loss tommorrow as the law of averages suggests the Oilers are due for a few more.
