After struggling out of the gate and posting a 4-6-0-1 record in the first 10 games of the season the Edmonton Oilers have rebounded nicely over the past 10 games. The Oilers overall record now sits at 12-8-0-3 giving them 27 points and a .675 winning percentage. The Oilers have enjoyed a softer schedule of late, but have posted wins over teams like the Rangers, Habs, and Thrashers recently to indicate that the Oilers should not be overlooked when it comes to discussing the better teams in this league. Over the first 10 games of the season the Oilers had 29 goals for and 31 goals against. During the past 10 games the focus has been on playing a different system designed to use the Oilers terrific skating ability to stiffle opposition offence. The result is that the Oilers have outscored opponents 40-25 in that span and are allowing a league low 24.7 shots against per game. Special teams has been a mixed result though as the Oilers have enjoyed a powerplay clicking a 24.4% over that span, but the Penalty Kill unit has struggled operating at a clip of only 79.2%. Still the Oilers have outscored the opposition 29-14 at even strength during this stretch.

Since taking over the Oilers GM Sylvanfan has made a few moves to tinker with the CPHL team. So far the famously impatient GM has mostly resisted (barely on a couple of occasions) the urge to deal some of his great young talent for veteran help now. The first move was to deal versatile 4th line forward Andy McDonald for veteran back up goalie Jani Hurme who has since moved on to Columbus. The most dynamic move was when Patrick Elias, Brendan Morrow, and Jason Chimera were sent to Detroit for Vincent Lecavalier, Matt Cooke, and Andre Roy. Shortly after that deal finally went through, David Legwand and Andre Roy were shipped to the Wild for Radek Dvorak, Samuel Pahlsson, and a few dollars. Depth defenceman Jim Fahey was moved to the Nashville Predators for prospect Johan Fransson. The Oilers than aquired Jassen Cullimore from the Anaheim Ducks for AHL'er Anton Volchenkov, and a 3rd round pick in 2006. The latest move by the Oilers saw Jani Hurme, J.P.Dumont, and ECHL prospect Dave Bolland heading to Columbus for Sebastien Caron, Marcus Nilsson, and a 3rd round pick in 05. The Oilers also lost Anterro Nittymaki on waivers, but were able to move Tommy Santala to the farm. In summary 12 CPHL players, 23 million in CPHL salary 2 AHL players and 170k in AHL payroll, 1 ECHL player, and a 3rd round pick in 06 have been moved out. Coming back is 7 CPHL players, 18.3 million in payroll +700k cap for this season and 1 million for next season. Two players have been moved to the AHL with 200k in salary, one more has been aquired to be added to the AHL along with his 100k salary, and a 3rd round pick in the coming draft.

It's supposed to be in Orange!!! Blue is for the Leafs.

Don't feel bad though, I forgot that for the first few days back on the job myself. No NHL and memories get short. :D
