Chris Therien keeps his briiliant ways as he scored the only goal for Hawks. Claude Lemieux registered his first point of the season and was +1. Second line of Erat, Hudler and Rucinsky is not clicking at all. Yeah, and surely opponent's goalie won one of 3 stars. Adam Hall finally recovered for injury but might not gain enough condition to play against Bruins.

THE DON IS VINDICATED!! NO ONE SAVES CATS FROM THIS GREASE FIRE.

The Oilers walked into the old stomping grounds of recently appointed GM Sylvanfan and promptly trounced the Panthers to the tune of 7-2. The Oilers controlled the game right from the get go, and had built up a 6-0 lead after two periods and were outplaying the hometown cats to the tune of 26-7 on the shot clock. The Panthers did manage consecutive goals 41 seconds apart in the third period to cut the lead to 6-2, but the Oilers tallied one more time on a late powerplay to make the final 7-2.

Determined to impress their new GM the Oilers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead only a minute into the game when Vincent Lecavalier scored his first goal as an Oiler. Lecalvalier finished off another terrific passing play on a 3 on 2 rush with his linemates Marian Hossa and Alexander Frolov. Lecavalier than upped the count to 2-0 15 minutes later when he was able to collect a rebound from a Matt Cooke shot and put it past Panther goalie Mathieu Garon. The Oilers went ahead 3-0 one minute and 27 seconds later when Bobby Holik found Jay Bouwmeester moving in from the point to blast a shot past Garon.

The Oilers continued their strong play into the second stanza and went ahead by 4 when Bobby Holik was able to bang in a J.P. Dumont rebound. Alexander Frolov made it 5-0 with a blazing wrist shot, and Jason Spezza ran it to 6-0 on a powerplay goal. The period ended with the Oilers out shooting the hosts 11-1 in the stanza. After the two quick goals by Nathan Dempsy, and Michael Ryder made it 6-2, rookie Nikolai Zherdev demonstrated his supreme skills on an unassisted powerplay goal to make it 7-2. Again the trio of Lecavalier, Hossa, and Frolov was very effective combining for 3 goals, 3 assist, a cumulative +4 , and 11 shots on goal. Jason Spezza, Bobby Holik, Radek Dvorak, and Jay Bowmeester all posted 2 point efforts with only Dvorak not registering a goal.

The Oilers slipped ahead of the idle Anaheim Ducks with the win and now sit 2nd in the Martin Division 2 points behind the surprising Avs. The Oilers also sit 4th in the Howe conference with 25 points in 19 games, trailing the Jackets by one, and the Avs and Preds by 2. The Oilers also have a game in hand against the top 3 and could possibly move into a tie at the top with a win. The Oilers have posted 7 wins and 2 overtime losses giving them a 16 out of a possible 18 points since Sylvanfan assumed the role as co-coach/GM. "As much as I'd like to take credit for the turnaround, I don't think I can. If you look at our schedule over the past 9 games, one would expect that we would post a very good record over that stretch. We have played a lot of teams that are struggling right now and needed to win these games. Tommorrow we should get a challenging game against Montreal, and that will help us determine how we are progressing." When asked how it felt to beat his old team Sylvanfan quipped "Well I hope this proves that releasing Don without giving him so much as one game was a major oversight. Other than that none of those guys were my players so it's no different than playing anyone else. Still winning in this building was something we didn't do much of last year at all."

Notes:
-The Oilers lost goalie Anterro Nittymaki to the Dallas Stars on waivers. Sylvanfan was dissappointed but not surprised. "There are teams that need to jump on any chance to get a decent asset, and frankly thats why waiver rules exist. We weren't going to use him for 2 more seasons so maybe he'll get his chance there."
-After the game the Oilers traded winger J.P. Dumont, backup tender Jani Hurme, and prospect Dave Bolland to Columbus for winger Marcus Nilson, goalie Sebastien Caron, and a 3rd round pick in the 05 draft. Sylvanfan offered the following thoughts on the deal. "Right now J.P. is set to play a third line checking type role on our team and that isn't his game. We also are very high on Caron, and feel that his age meshes very well with our current team. We like Nilson's versatility and feel that he can provide us with a good two way forward to play on a top checking line with Holik and Cooke. Still we did potentially give Columbus the player they need to have the best balanced top two lines in the Howe conference. We're also sad to move a guy like Bolland, but Robbie Schremp's play thus far this season makes that move easier for us to stomach."

288 KINGS 4 BLUES 1

KINGS MAKE ST. LOO SING THE BLUES

Dan Cloutier was in fine form Saturday stopping 28 of the 29 shots the St. Louis Blues fired his way, leading his LA Kings to victory in a rare game where the Kings were outshot by the opposition.

Derian Hatcher opened the scoring in the opening frame with his first tally of the season. Following that three of the Kings' four left wingers - Mike Leclerc, Darcy Tucker, and PJ Axelsson - all lit the lamp. Tucker and Axelsson's goal were scoring with the man advantage. Despite taking many foolish penalties, St. Louis only managed to score one powerplay goal, their only goal of the night.

Manchester was defeated by Worcester 1-0 in the AHL.
