Hey boys and girls,

Well it's about that time of year again....and CP's resident fantasy nut is here to start yet another league.

If I recall correctly Jiggy 12 is our reigning champion with flambers (good call Jiggy) as the runner up and Suave as third place. I will just assume you three will participate again.

I think having an 18 person league like last year is fair. Categories will be determined when I open the league. If you sign up, please post a preferred time for the draft. I will sign up for the league when it opens on February 15th.

1. Pagal4321
2. Jiggy 12

4. Suave

Definitely in again to defend my title, the last 2 seasons were fun.

Just looking back at the old thread, and the runner up was flambers. I think the best time for the draft is any weeknight except for friday, or on a sunday night. Most people including myself should be available for those times.

Looks like there is alot of interest from new managers, so just a quick note for those who haven't played before.

This league works great if you pay attention, and adjust your lineups at least twice a week. It isn't just a draft and see what happens pool.
So make sure you have some time to make an effort. The last 2 seasons we maybe had 1 or 2 teams that lost interest both years, which is actually pretty good. But any more than that it just isn't any fun.

Jiggy_12
02-09-2007, 09:35 PM
how many people from each position do we each draft?

That will be determined by the commissioner.

But usually you'll have every IF position, 3 OF posititions, a util which can be anything, then 3-5 bench spots. As well as 1 or 2 DL spots for your injured players. 3-5 Starting pitchers, 3 relievers, then 3-5 bench spots for pitchers.

What about a small entry fee, whereby 75% is paid out and 25% goes to CP?
Pagel was cautiously supportive of this idea (Is that a correct catagorization) ... dependant on everyone elses feedback.

I don't know if it's possible, or if the majority want to do it, but I would suggest freezing the rosters at the start of the playoffs. So what's more important, a pitcher with a low ERA or one that gets a lot of SOs?

Well..that's a tough one. they would be weighted the same. To win that stat category, you have to have more SO's than your opponent, or a lower ERA than your opponent. But since SO's are so rare, usually 1 is enough to win.

So I guess I would prefer a SO to a low ERA, but the two things go hand-in-hand so you can't draft a SO pitcher without also getting a low ERA pitcher.

Some GMs can find really quality players really late in the draft...those are the GMs that will do really well.

Trades can be a big part of this league too. Last year I made a trade that singlehandedly won me the whole thing.

My team had tons of power, but no average or speed. So I sent Richie Sexson away for Chase Utley. Chase Utley went on to have a huge year in every category. Its good to have balance. So having the 1st overall pick is somewhat bad, because of the snake draft order. if you draft 18th..you're almost better off.

Man, that was a rough draft for me.

First, my sly plan of picking Chase Utley 7th overall gets thwarted. Then Pagal leaves with his wishes of another Jiggy_12 outburst, and about 2 minutes later I draft Liriano who I find out is gone for the year. BAH!

Super-Rye
03-26-2007, 12:28 AM
I like my team, alot of really young pitchers who are high reward. Of course the downside to that is if they don't work I'm shallow when it comes to pitching with a bunch of mediocre pitchers and no true ace...we'll see how this plays out.

Flickered Flame
03-26-2007, 09:14 AM
Yeah I feel like my pitching is very good. I have 4 or 5 starters that could win 15+games each and thats not counting Harden who could be a great pick if he stays healthy.

Offensively, I am not so happy with my picks. I don't have one big home run guy, unless Beltran belts out 45+dingers. My infield is solid but more solid contact type hitters and the outfield is Beltran, Alou, and Matthews.

The thing I hate most about my team is that I draft 5 Angels, the team I hate the most.

socalwingfan

Can't say I'm too happy with my team - I think taking Ortiz with my first pick cast a shadow over my whole draft. I had psyched myself up for taking Manny at 11 (the only Sox I can stand) but couldn't pass on Ortiz.
It seemed like some weird picks were happening in the early rounds and completely took me out of my strategy. Oh well, there's always the waiver pickups!!

I hope that my gambles pay off... especially in my pitching. Pedro, Gagne, and AJ... If they can pull everything together, should work out good for me. Not too sure about my infield, but I'm happy with my outfield of Jones, Wells, and Bonds. Getting Pujols isn't too shabby either. I don't think I'll be in last this year fellas.

As for my team (BlueJayyfan), like others I took gambles as well. With my first pick I took Mr Stolen Base...Reyes. If he has another solid year he should be a great pick. My second pick I took Mauer, this guy was awesome last season.

I also took three young guys with my really late picks I believe thats the area which makes or breaks a team.

My teams weakness this year could be pitching. As hitting should be really strong.

The draft was a blast thanks for organizing this !

I need at least two of my young bats (Kendrick, Markakis, and Duncan)
to step up to have a chance. That and I need my two closers to stay healthy and keep their jobs. And it looks like I will also have to do some waiver wire work to help out my pitching.

Pitching seems to be my strongpoint.

SP:
Halladay
Zito
Kenny Rogers
Buehrle
Penny
Loaiza
Meche
Livan Hernandez
Wolf
Byrd

RP:
Isringhausen
Todd Jones

C - Ivan Rodriguez
1B - Jeff Kent
2B- Luis Castillo
3B - Eric Chavez
SS - Derek Jeter
OF - Jermaine Dye
OF - Jim Edmonds
OF - Garret Anderson
Util - Pedro Feliz
Util - Kevin Mench
Bench - Marcus Thames

Dye is my power guy and Jeter is batting average guy. I'll probably be looking to trade a pitcher or two for a bat. Let me know if you're interested!

LOL, its always critical that a person edits his or her draft lists, as there are a pile of players that are on the IR or are gone for the season or are not signed which were on the Yahoo list.

I know that does not help you but it might help yah in the future. I must of removed 40 or 50 players who are high risk guys.

Yep, I thought I was going to miss the draft as well (made it back just in time)..... thats why I really like the feature of editing the players (can start to mess around with it way before hand).

I would of hated to get a guy like Josh Towers on my team..... :bag:

Crap, I would agree with that..... I am not too sure Mr Clemens will sign with any team........... but I am guessing you must have a player thats out for the season on your team.... or even worse an Oakland player.....

I have someone whom I drafted by mistake...and he is pure garbage IMO and would be happy to lose him for lotto ticket named Clemens.

If you look over my draft history you can probably figure out who it is...one name is very out of place in the middle of my draft.

Man, that was a rough draft for me.

First, my sly plan of picking Chase Utley 7th overall gets thwarted. Then Pagal leaves with his wishes of another Jiggy_12 outburst, and about 2 minutes later I draft Liriano who I find out is gone for the year. BAH!

DAMN IT...I missed another outburst???

I don't think I have a shot in hell of competeing in this league....

Again, teams looking for SP, contact me! Halladay and Zito I doubt would be moved but I have:

Kenny Rogers (17-8 last year)
Brad Penny (16-9 last year)

And then a step below them:
Gil Meche
Livan Hernandez
Esteban Loaiza
Mark Buehrle

if any CP people want tix to Oakland games, I have connections and can hook you up..so if you're goin to be in Oakland, lemme know! They're bleacher seats in the outfield, not that great, but hey, they're free;)

Hey guys,
Seems someone has sent me some concerns about pending trades. I cannot view these trades at work, but he brings up good points. Go see his SECOND post in the league discussion area....apparently his first one was quite the rant.
I will review the trades once I get home. And it seems I'm the only one who can make any veto'ing decisions on trades....what a lovely position for me.

Hopefully I can get back to the finals and this time win...instead of second place last year......:whaa:
