what its illigal to play poker online in the states now?
when did this happen?
I would assume that all of those sites that you see commercials for are pretty ****ed about this. I wonder what caused this, the law of where casino's can be located, or all of the casino's out there complaining that it's hurting there business.
hmm, I've never really taken too much of a liking to poker, just something to do with friends on a boring night. Those sites would be a good place for me to practise though. Good thing Im up here in Canada. (Or are alot of them folding now that U.S. players cant play?)

I think the US government enacted a law making it illegal for credit card companies to process transactions from internet gambling websites. The gambling is essentially legal, but it's virtually impossible to do it. This goes for all types of gambling websites.

You can still play poker online as long as your not dealing in real money.

Most advertisments on the TV advertise the free .net domains of the companies anyway. If you install the .net software from all those commercials, you will only have the software to participate with play money. The .com domains of the same name deal with real money.

The free online poker sites are just a ploy to aviod problems about promoting gambling, and once they are at the "free" website, they are bombarded with links to the play for real site.

I haven't played online poker for quite sometime now...

What if the US resident gave money to a Canadian resident.....the Canadian resident deposited the money in his poker account and then transfered it back to the American....is that illegal?

I would think you'd run the risk of someone running off with your cash. That is, provided you don't know the person you're giving the money to, which wouldn't make sense for you to do anyway...
